Gallery Internship

 HANG ART is offering an internship for Fall/Winter 2010. The ideal duration of the internship is from August through December 2010. All HANG ART internships are unpaid and must be completed for school credit at an accredited university. Interns should be available to work weekdays as well as artist receptions that take place the first Thursday of each month from 6-8pm.

The Gallery Internship at HANG ART provides a wide variety of experience, from understanding business operations and refining communication skills to managing a fine art inventory and handling art. In a fast-paced environment, the Gallery Intern will:
  • Assist with accounting processes, including accounts receivable, accounts payable and general bookkeeping
  • Write and transcribe general correspondence and other copy
  • Keep financial and consignment records organized and archived
  • Maintain office, artwork inventory, and exhibition spaces
  • Manage contacts database
  • Oversee artist collateral stock
  • Compile marketing research and initiate press mailings
  • Help with exhibition layouts and artwork installation
  • Participate in prospective artist presentations and evaluate portfolio submissions
  • Interact with clients in a professional, customer service oriented manner
  • Complete other tasks as assigned

  • Enthusiasm and ability to learn all gallery functions
  • Professional, outgoing, personable demeanor
  • Excellent communication skills, especially via phone
  • Proactive work ethic with ability to prioritize and problem solve
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Willingness to complete various tasks
  • Aptitude for inner-city traveling
  • Proficiency with PCs, Windows (primarily Excel and Word), and Adobe Acrobat
  • Sense of humor
